automatic Transform 2D Images Into 3D
Posted by: shay in Uncategorized on June 24th, 2006
Creating 3D animations from regular 2D images has long been thought impossible by researchers since three decades ago. Describing the geometry of objects to a computer was no easy task back then. Even research computers are so much slower than our current home computers.
But the time is different now. Researchers at Carnegie Mellon University has announced that they’ve found a way to help computers learn the geometric context of a 2D image automatically. Not only will we be able to generate 3D scenes from a single 2D image, the technology could also be used with gadgets and robots to better comprehend what their “eyes†see.
The transformation is accomplished by teaching the computer to spot visual cues to differentiate horizontal and vertical surfaces in outdoor scenes. For example, the sky is always blue and cars will likely be resting on flat grounds. From the video below, the technology is looking really promising.
AMEX Butterfly Card
Posted by: shay in Uncategorized on June 24th, 2006

The AMEX Butterfly card is supposed to make it easier to carry and use your AMEX Gold Card but personally I don’t see it. The main ‘innovation’ here is that the card itself can fold in half and fit into a metallic keychain-sized case. You can even leave the magnetic stripe side of the card sticking out so that it can be easily swiped without having to completely remove the card from the case.
The card is available to any American Express Gold Card members for no additional fees and while it will come with a different number than your standard AMEX Gold Card, any charges made with the Butterfly will be linked to your primary card’s account. (And will appear in a seperate section on your bill.)
I’ve never really had much difficuly in fitting a single credit card into any of my pockets but I guess if whipping out the Gold card doesn’t attract as much attention as you’d like this might be a way to turn heads.

Give ‘em The High-Tech Finger with Driv-e-mocion
Posted by: shay in Uncategorized on June 24th, 2006

Sticking your arm outside the window to give the bird can be too much effort sometimes. Driv-e-mocion is the perfect device for the ultimate lazy aggressive driver. It is a small electronic display that can attach to the back window and allow any kind of message include smilie faces, frownie faces, kind words and even some four-letter words to be displayed. Given, the four letter words may anger the person behind you even more, it is still cool to put them in their place, geekily. $20 for an increased chance of being ran off the road, worth it to me.
