m300 – World’s First Truly Mobile GSM Phone Watch

m300-2.jpgm300.jpg

Australian company SMS Developments Ltd has just announced the world’s first truly mobile GSM watch phone. From the pictures it doesn’t look much bigger than a conventional (albeit bulky) watch but also sports full voice and SMS capabilities.

Must admit I’m some what surprised that this sort of technology has taken so long to hit the market. It just seemed a matter of time (no pun intended) before mobile technology was small enough to cram into an ordinary wrist watch.

Full details are a bit sparse at the moment but the specs include:

  • Mode : GSM/GPRS 900/1800/1900 MHZ
  • Dimensions : 43 x 56 x 14.8 mm
  • Display : 65K OLED (0.9″)
  • Memory : 128 * 32
  • Internal type antenna
  • Bluetooth (with bluetooth headset for voice call only)
  • SIM Card support
  • Speaker Phone Text base UI
  • Talk Time 80 Minutes, Standby Time 70 hours

The M300 is available to buy online from MyMobileWatch for $649 AUD (~$500 USD),

The ReGen, A Self-Charging Yo-Yo MP3 Player

mp3_new_07.jpg

Some time ago, Popular Science, in collaboration with Core77 organized a design competition called Human Powered, which sought to design products which harnessed human energy to power themselves. The winners were Chris Aimone et Tomek Bartczak for their design of the ReGen, an MP3 player that doubles as an electricity-generating Yo-Yo. Simply toss the player 10 to 12 times every hour, and it’ll stay fully charged.

If ever developed, the designers envision it coming with 512MB of memory, as well as Bluetooth headsets so you won’t run into any tangle issues when “recharging” it. Song and artist information would be displayed on an LCD screen, on the face of the player.

The competition was for the development of a concept only, so there doesn’t seem to be any concrete plans to commercialize this device any time soon.
